High River is a fast growing community, bordering on the outskirts of Okotoks. In High River you are still able to find homes on large parcels of land but can expect to pay anything in the region of $580,000-$2,000,000.
High River began as a meeting place. Later, it became an important agricultural and commercial center. Today, you'll discover a thriving true-to-its roots western town with all the modern conveniences, everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay!
High River has a wide range of recreational facilities, Snodgrass Recreation Complex features a 25m swimming pool, whirlpools, concession, as well as a curling rink and hockey arena. High River Golf and Country Club has a challenging 27 holes with clubhouse and pro shop. The Rio Vista Golf Club is a 9-hole executive course with a clubhouse. The Agricultural Grounds have indoor and outdoor arenas. The facility features rodeo grounds, riding, 4-H activities and roping. The Fitness Club has racquetball and squash courts, a weight room and fitness classes. If you enjoy water sports, take advantage of the river! Swimming, fishing and canoeing. The river has sections of rapids rated in the class VI category for the more adventurous!
High River's parks range from large natural areas to childrens playgrounds. High River's location along the Highwood River and at the source of the Little Bow River, has enhanced its ability to provide several beautiful river bank areas. The George Lane Memorial Park has 55 overnight padded campsites with firepits; a central complex housing washrooms and showers; a picnic shelter with cooking facilities; day picnic areas with BBQ's; a baseball diamond with bleachers; a well equipped children's playground and canoeing in the adjacent river. The park also has a band shell; a community reserve area for reunions and 12 professional horseshoe pits. Birchwood Park has day picnic sites; a children's playground; a baseball diamond and public washrooms. Water Tower Park features day picnic areas and a children's playground with picnic shelters and cooking facilities.
There are a number of different churches in and around High River.
Public schools in High River are part of the Foothills School Division #38, the office is located in High River.
High River has four public schoools, including two elementary-level schools, a middle school and Highwood High School opened in September 1996, a state of the art facility.
